About MOTH

Maasvlakte Oil Terminal. One of the largest oil terminals in the world.

Maasvlakte Olie Terminal, or MOT for short, is one of the largest oil terminals in the world. As a joint venture of well-known oil companies, we have been fulfilling an important role in the logistical chain between oil producers and the five Dutch refineries for more than 45 years. Thanks to the good maritime infrastructure, the largest tankers can moor with us.

As a result, the vast majority of crude oil is transported to us by supertankers; ships up to 400,000 tons DW and with a draught of more than 22 meters. Together with our own storage facilities and an extensive underground pipeline network for the transport of crude oil, this provides an attractive situation for the partners.

Our People

For MOT, sincerity, integrity and respect for people are elementary concepts. We attach great importance to promoting trust and openness, to cooperation, professionalism and to appropriate pride in the delivered performances.

Our policy is aimed at guaranteeing the safety of employees and protecting their health. Through strict procedures, frequent consultation with all parties involved and monitoring compliance, we try to limit risks to people and the environment to an absolute minimum. Prevention is our absolute priority. MOT has over 40 permanent employees. In addition, there is always a varying number of contractors active at the terminal for maintenance work and security, among other things. The availability of the facilities is optimized through specific maintenance programs. For example, all storage tanks are periodically cleaned, inspected and repaired if necessary. A lot of attention is paid to safety and the environment.

MOT sculpture ‘BINDING’
On January 13, 1994, the MOT sculpture “Binding” was officially unveiled. The artwork is dedicated to the MOT employees as a thank you and appreciation for their efforts during the first 20 MOT years.

The sculpture was designed specifically for MOT by artist Corry Ammerlaan-Van Niekerk. According to the assignment, the design had to symbolize a 20-year collaboration with the partners and be dedicated to the employees of MOT who experienced a large part of these 20 years.

The design that was finally chosen was given the name ‘BINDING’; bonding of MOT with the partners. The human figure in the sculpture, which has now been placed on our site, represents the MOT employees and the six rings symbolize the six partners. The ‘image’ radiates a certain willingness to serve, because we carry our partners on our hands, as it were.
